Fun For Flight
Starring Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore, Non-Stop ($14.99 Buy HD/$5.99 Rent HD) is an action packed plane thriller that takes a small leap forward in the genre. What we mean by that is the plot is simple enough with proposed on board killings in exchange for money from terrorists but technology enters the picture and plays a pivotal role in leaving the whole audience guessing until the end.
We only gave Non Stop 3/5 stars on the cast, not because the casting was bad, but because it felt a little strained in quality outside of Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore. Frankly, we were surprised Julianne Moore agreed to play this role (probably out of respect for Liam Neeson) but she added a lot of depth to the cast. We would have given the review a full 5 stars if there was some more depth to the acting roles.
We thought the story line was typically generic and if not for the surprise ending and implementation of technology into the storyline, the film would have flat out sucked. But, we anchored on 3/5 stars for the story because of the aforementioned aspects to the film. We were pleasantly surprised by our low expectations not being met.
Watch Twice Factor
We definitely think this film has the potential to be watched twice. Once at home on the big screen with family or friends. Once on the airplane!
You can’t beat the pace of this film. It does not let up from about 15 minutes in until the end. Liam takes the rein of the situation during the flight and the story twists and turns to prevent any blinking while watching. While there is some back story to Liam’s character that feels a bit contrived, it has its necessary place in the film to raise questions into the ability of his character to judge a situation correctly and whether or not we should believe in him.
Worth Your Buck
If you are a Liam Neeson fan. Definitely. If you are an action thriller fan. Definitely. This is one of the films you can buy and have in your library as a great one to pull out for when you have friends over and need to watch a fast paced and shorter film. If you’re looking just for a quick flick to catch on a Friday night and don’t care about being a great host for your friends, just rent it.
